Weekly MACD Line

The scan below is a part of a larger scan. My list includes SPX and it selects SPX on May 29, 2018 even though the weekly macd line on that day is greater than the previous week's macd line. It looks like the previous week macd line was at 136.586 and on May 29th it looks like its at 138.366. What is it that I don't see please?

[Favorites list is 16] and [Weekly MACD Line(12,26,9) < Weekly MACD Signal(12,26,9)] and [Weekly MACD Line(12,26,9) < 1 Week ago MACD Line(12,26,9)] and [MACD Line(12,26,9) > 0.0] and [MACD Line(12,26,9) < MACD Signal(12,26,9)] and [MACD Line(12,26,9) < 1 Day ago MACD Line(12,26,9)]

  • I'm assuming you mean $SPX.

Before we look at the logic, we should get clear on the indicator values. I don't see the values you are referring to (136.586, 138.366). Here's what I see:

On the daily chart on May 29, 2018 daily MACD(12,26,9) Line (black) is 12.652 and daily MACD(12,26,9) Signal (red) is 13.810.

On the same day on the weekly chart, weekly MACD(12,26, 9) Line (black) is 19.875 and weekly MACD(12,26,9) Signal (red) is 25.408.

You can see these values if put the indicator in a separate window (one on the weekly chart, one on the daily chart) and set Legends to default, and the chart Range set to Start/End with any start date and the end date May 29, 2018.

  • Mark, yes I do mean $SPX. I included the daily part of the scan but the problem is only with the weekly part of it. I know how to do all of what you described and when I do it now, I get the exactly what you get. I didn't save the charts that I was looking at earlier when I asked the question so now, I don't know what in the world I was doing. Good gawd I see what I did, I do this kind of thing way too often. I wasn't looking at $SPX, I was looking at $NDX and thinking it was $SPX. I have to apologize for wasting your time.
  • Hey, it happens. No problem.
