  • The $ designates an index symbol. You can't remove it and get expect to get the same symbol data.

    $COMPQ is the Nasdaq Composite Index symbol/chart. COMPQ is not a symbol in the StockCharts library.
    $SPX is the SP500 Index symbol . SPX is not a symbol in the StockCharts library of symbols.
  • Some of the symbols have ETFs associated with them - SPY is sp500, QQQ is compq. But you would have to do some research. You could try searching on the industry name and "etf" - e.g. precious metals etf.
  • Just an FYI, $NDX is the QQQ equivalent according to the StockCharts symbol library. $COMPQ is the Nasdaq Composite Index. ONEQ is an ETF equivalent for that one.
