some confusion about the days of scan
Comments
-
daily sma(20,daily close)>10 vs sma(20, close)>10
no difference; you don't need the "daily" modifier
Today’s min (250,close) vs Yesterday’s min (250,close)
The first looks at the last 250 lows, starting from (and including) today's low
The second looks at the last 250 lows, starting from (and including) yesterday's low.
Note that the "min low" - the lowest low in the last 250 days starting from today or yesterday could be the same value. For instance, the lowest low counting back from today's low might be 10 days ago. That low would be 9 days ago from yesterday's low.
[ today's low < yesterday's daily min(253,low)] vs [today's low < today's min(253,low)]
Same difference as above - today's min and yesterday's min start looking back from different lows, but could still return the same value.0 -
Thanks markd !
But then why stockcharts creates different codes with the same intended usage ?0 -
Different people (subscribers) have different notions about how to make the scan language more "user friendly". Some like the "plain language" approach, some like the more "logical" approach. I'm guessing the Stockcharts programmers don't want to be purists, which would send some subscribers away, so they try to make it work for different preferences.0

There are a small number of things that are duplicated with the same results, but if they were not, then people approaching it from that angle would be on here asking why their method didn’t work; it’s for a little bit more flexibility

Just like there are thousands of people looking at a stock, and different people will see different things when they look at that chart
