RS and momentum w.r.t stock and index movement

edited April 2023 in Other Charting Tools
Hi @Julius_RRG - In RRG , if the stock prices are moving up but the underlying index is doing better than the stock then the stock's RS and momentum will be less than 100 . If the index starts falling now but the stock prices almost remain untouched then the stock's strength and momentum would go above 100 and it will probably move to leading quadrant .This move on the RRG has come without any corresponding major price move . On the same lines if the index and stock both starts falling and eventually fall in the index becomes much more than the stock then on RRG will it show as increase in the relative strength and momentum for the stock ? This will be increase in the RS and momentum while the stock price is actually falling . Can u pls clarify on this

  • Yes, RS is "Relative" Strength. It's a comparison between two things. Price increases more, or goes down less, than the comparison symbol, the RS would be stronger or rising. Absolute performance of the two things is irrelevant to the relative charting.
